Opera 8 now free!
Guys Opera is now free. I downloaded and tried it. It’s really fast. They also have this recycle bin thing on the upper right hand corner that is very useful. e.g. You mistakenly closed one of your tabs and now you don’t know how to get back there. Worry not, the Opera’s recycle bin will take you back there. It’s brilliant isn’t it? They also have this “Session save” function wherein when we are browsing we open a lot of tabs and we wanted to get back into the same browsers at a latter time. Worry not again. Opera 8 can now save sessions and saves your day. There is one trouble though, when I tried to open my MS outlook exchange it didn’t show the contents. I think I still have to explore more on this issue. Perhaps I just didn’t configure the settings correctly. If anyone of knows how to make this work please help me.
Other features of the new Opera browser:
Fit to window width
Opera’s “fit to window width”-feature means no more horizontal scrolling and improved ability to print entire Web pages. In combination with Opera’s Zoom function, you can magnify Web pages dramatically and still view them without having to scroll sideways.
Voice
Opera is the first browser to prepare for a future of Web sites offering interactive, voice-enabled shopping and booking systems. You can browse the Web using spoken commands, such as “Opera next link”, “Opera back”, or “Opera speak”. The latter command will make Opera read Web page content and e-mail messages to you aloud ,adding usability as either a screen reader or advanced dictionary. Voice is currently offered in English and works on Windows 2000 and XP. A headset with a microphone is required to use Voice. This one is really cool.
Additional features
- Full support for Gmail
- Support for Atom newsfeeds
- First Web browser to natively support Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG)
Overall Opera is better than Microsofts’ Internet Explorer and FireFox. Download the new Opera 8 here.
